SMOKE AND HEAT SENSOR

This sensor does two things. It detects smoke particles in the air, using photoelectronics. It also detects when a room is getting too hot, too fast. It combines these abilities to protect you and your home from fire.

If the sensor detects either of these potentially dangerous conditions, it triggers an alert to the Control Panel. The Control Panel signals the Monitoring Center to dispatch the fire department to your home.

This sensor is sensitive to airborne particles, so it's best used in areas mostly free of smoke or dust.
Setup

The national fire code advises homeowners to protect each floor of the house. We recommend at least one Smoke and Heat Sensor outside each sleeping area. A "sleeping area" is a cluster of bedrooms that share a common hallway.

Mount the Smoke and Heat Sensors on the ceiling or wall. Like all our sensors, they come with easy "peel-and-place" mounting adhesive. For ceiling mounts, place sensors in the center of a room or hallway, at least 4" away from the nearest wall. For walls, the ideal location is 4-12" below the ceiling.

Of course the kitchen isn't the best place for Smoke and Heat Sensors, because cooking fumes can set them off. These sensors sometimes confuse dust or other particulates with smoke. Avoid dusty or humid areas, and locations near a ventilation source. Your HVAC intake, for example, could prevent smoke from reaching the detector.

Many homes are built with smoke detectors, but in most cases these sensors are not monitored. All of FrontPoint's sensors communicate with our Monitoring Center, via the Control Panel.

Smoke and Heat Sensors provide your most comprehensive and effective fire protection:

They detect smoke
They detect heat
They're monitored
The monitoring piece is critical, to dramatically reduce the response time of the fire department in an emergency. Monitoring also protects your home when you're not there.
